6 Easy DIY Potholders

Potholder is surely a must-have item in your kitchen.  Check out these easy potholder projects you can make on your own!

1.  Pretty Little Potholder

You’ll need:

2 pieces of cotton fabric 9 1/2″ x 8″ for potholder base

2 pieces of cotton fabric 8″ x 8″ for potholder front

2 pieces of InsulBright or 3 layers cotton batting 9 1/2″ x 8″ for potholder base

1 piece of InsulBright or cotton batting 8″ x 8″ for potholder front

1 piece of cotton fabric 2″ x 13″ for ruffle ( make it longer if you like a really full ruffle )

1 piece of cotton fabric 1 1/2″ x 7 1/2″ for binding above the ruffle

cotton bias binding (must be cut on the bias) 2 1/2″ x 44″

ribbon or trim to make loop 4″

decoration for the potholder front (hexagon flower, fabric patch, ribbon, trim, etc.)

2.  Quilted Potholder

You’ll need:

4 1/4″ square of focal print

1 – 3 7/8″ square- green polka dot

2 – 3 7/8″ squares- orange

4 – 3 1/8″ squares- yellow

2″ wide by approximately 42″ long strip of striped fabric for binding

1 1/2″ x 4″ green polka dot (for loop)

9″ square backing fabric

9″ square insulated batting

MAKE THIS PROJECT!

3.  DIY Patchwork Potholder

You’ll need:

1 – 4.5″x4.5″ center square

4 – 2.5″x2.5″ corner squares

4 – 2.5″x4.5″ contrast rectangles

1 – 9″x9″ background square

3 – 9″x9″ batting squares

40″ strip of 2″ binding

MAKE THIS PROJECT!

4.  Scrappy Pot Holders

You’ll need:

assorted fabric scraps

10″ x 10″ (25 x 25cm) piece of cotton quilt batting (not polyester)

10″ x 10″ (25 x 25cm) piece of Insul-bright*

10″ x 10″ (25 x 25cm) backing fabric

single fold quilt binding  – approximately 35″ (90cm)

5.  Double Potholder

You’ll need:

One piece 24″x8″ terry cloth. You could use an old bath or dish towel for this if you want.

Six pieces 5″x8″- 2 in the terry cloth, 2 quilt batting, and two in the pretty fabric you want to use. This top layer could be any manner of patchwork or piecing. Also, if you don’t have batting lying around, don’t sweat it, just use another layer of terry.

A package of double fold bias tape, I used 1/2 inch.
