Crafting with your kids for 4th of July!

Is everyone ready for the 4th of July, I know I am.  With 4th of July coming up real soon, now would be the time to start your projects.  Kids are home for the summer with nothing to do (according to them), so why not give them something fun to do.  These are easy to make hats that anyone can create.  I have also include a bonus project for Patriotic Fans made from cardstock so be sure to read the whole article.  What are you waiting for let’s get started!

I didn’t get a chance to take more step by step photos of this weeks crafts as we got into making them and had so much fun but the instructions should be pretty self explanatory.

Materials needed

  • Paper gift bag (These come in all sizes and you will need to measure around the persons head you want to fit to buy the correct size)
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Paint
  • Star stickers
  • Ribbon

  1. To make one, first remove the handles from a white paper gift bag large
enough to fit your child’s head (we used 10 to 12-inch-tall bags). Use a
pencil and a ruler to mark vertical lines about 1 inch apart down all
sides of the bag and across the bottom, then paint or color every other
stripe red. (For painting, open the bag and place it over a small bucket
    or similar object.)
  2. When the paint has dried, fold over the open end of the bag a few times for a
hat brim, then paint or color the brim blue. Allow the paint to dry.
  3. Add a few Silver Star stickers to the brim, and the hat is ready to wear. (If
the hat is too roomy, wrap a ribbon around it at the base, behind the
    brim, and cinch it snug.)

Patriotic Cardstock fans

These stars-and-stripes fans are fun to wave while waiting on the sidelines for the parade to begin, or just simply to use at
home.  They are very easy to make and the kids love them.

Materials Needed

  • Wooden paint stirrer
  • 2 (8-inch) squares of card stock, one white and one blue, for each fan
  • Glue
  • Red tape
  • Sticker stars

  1. Use glue to sandwich the top of a wooden paint stirrer between two 8-inch squares of card stock (one white and one blue).
  2. Apply strips of red tape to the white side and sticker stars to the blue side, and the fan is ready to wave.

Hope you and your kids enjoy these hats and fans that will make any party or parade a hit.  As always Happy Crafting!
