Amber’s Resolution Review – Weeks 5 & 6

If you read My Couponing New Year’s Resolution -  You know that my three resoltuions are Budgeting, Menu Planning, and using Mail in Rebates!

So week 5 I only purchased meat, which seemed boring – so I figured I would combine week 5 & 6 this week! Let’s see what I have been up to - PLUS how much money I have saved!

BUDGETING:

I have set myself to a budget of $350 a month for my family of 4. This grocery budget includes ALL of my shopping, pet supplies, laundry, everything that I have to buy at a store!! I set it a $350 to give myself some cushion, because I can regularly do this with $175 or less. I have budgeted this way so that whatever is left over each month can go to our savings account – remember we are saving up for that first home! So, if I have it set at $350 a month, this leaves me about $87.50 a week to spend!

WEEK 5- I spent $73.03, saving only $36.52. However, on my behalf – this was all meat! 🙂
WEEK 6- I spent $42.31, saving $136.77!! You can see the picture below for my shopping this week!

I shopped at Walmart, Albertsons, & Walgreens this week!

So week 6 was pretty good and thanks to week 5’s abundance of meat, I may not do any shopping this weekend, but we will see! 😉

How is February going this far?

SPENT: $115.34
SAVED: $173.29
REGULAR PRICE FOR THESE PURCHASES: $288.63
SAVINGS: 60.04% OUCH, this is quite a bit lower than I would like!

MAIL IN REBATES:

I have not submitted any mail in rebates this week – bummer, but I have my eyes out for them though. Not that there have not been mail in rebates, just not ones that I would use! Head over and  check out some of the Mail in Rebates there are right now.

MONEY MADE IN REBATES THIS YEAR: $17.99

MENU PLANNING:

I always tell you how much I love Food on the Table, because they offer menu planning for FREE (for 3 meals), so now that I am done onto mine!

Thanks to my meat stickers from week 5, we have had some new things!

Stuffed Rolled Steak (using stuffing & thin steak)
Wild Rice & Mushroom Stuffed Chicken
Lima Beans & Ham Hocks (mmmm)
Spaghetti (kids and husband’s favorite!)
Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup

Before my resolution, I was just figuring out on a daily basis what was for dinner. Now on Saturday evenings I get my menu figured out for the week or I will do it Sunday evening if I find some killer meat stickers Sunday morning. This cuts down on those little trips for small things like sour cream because you decided on tacos tonight!

So that’s how my last two weeks have been going! How have you been holding up? Are you meeting your budget?

If you would like to see anything else in this review feel free to comment below! As always give this post a like/tweet if you enjoyed it! : Have a great weekend and make sure to come see me again next Friday!

  1. Amber,
How did you go about the Got2Be? Did you ask the cashier upfront to raise the (free) bottle to 1 cent? I went to Walgreens and the cashier keep arguing that I did not need to use/scan the second coupon since I was already getting the 2nd bottle for free (buy 1 get 1 free). She called another cashier and the other cashier was no too sure either. The Got2Be was $5.99 BOGO Free. The coupon policy says it can’t have an overage but Wags does accept 2 coupons on BOGOs… Please help so I can use before the 25th (end of sale for Got2Be). Thanks

    • Genevieve – it depends on the cashier I get. This transaction I had 6 bottles and only 5 coupons so the $.01 overage was applied to the cart. Sometimes they will just ring it down the $.01 so it won’t beep.

So if I had 6 coupons and 6 of the products it would have beeped. But if you have a 7th item, the register will not beep, because there is something soaking up the $.03 in overage.

I would suggest that you take this with you the next time you go:

Hope this helps and good luck!
