Beef Stew – Crock Pot


I don’t know where I originally found this recipe, but it takes minutes to prepare, and then your slow cooker does all the work, and you come home to a yummy smelling house, and an even better tasting beef stew.  It’s been pretty chilly around here lately, waking up to frost all over, so a nice hearty beef stew fit the bill.

Serves 4-6 for about $1.50/bowl

2 lbs. stew meat cut into 1″ chunks – $5.48

1/4 cup flour

1/2 tsp. salt

1/2 tsp. black pepper

1 clove garlic, minced

1 bay leaf

1 tsp. paprika

1 tsp. Worchesterasire sauce

1 onion, chopped – $0.33

1 1/2 cups beef broth –  $0.87

(I didn’t have any beef broth, so I just used 1 can French onion soup and one can chicken broth, so I omitted the onion as well)

3 potatoes, diced – $0.24

2 carrots, sliced – $0.09

2 stalks celery, sliced – $0.40


Place meat in slow cooker.

In a small bowl, combine flour, salt, pepper.

Pour over meat and stir to coat.

Stir in remaining ingredients and cook on low for 10-12 hours.  (My meat chunks were a bit smaller, so I cooked mine for about 7 1/2 hours, and it was great!)
