If you’re just tuning in to my Coupon With Me Series, you can check out my first 3 posts over HERE. I’ve got my coupons organized and I’m officially ready to hit the stores this week. At the beginning of each week, I like to go through my ads and scroll through all the store match-ups to find deals that are worth while. Obviously “worthwhile” deals are going to be different depending on your needs and time availability, but the following lists are items I like. Clearly, I will not make to every store (probably just one or two), but I like to create a list just in case. I’ll go ahead and clip the coupons for the *starred* items (these make the top of the list) and leave the un-clipped. I’ll keep this list with me (on my phone) throughout the week and if I get the chance to head into any of these stores I’ll already know items I want to grab. More delals will liekly pop up throughout the week. I’ll add them to my list.

*I’ll report back at the end of the week and show you my goods! Hopefully I can get some good stuff.

Coupon With Me: My Coupon Binder (No Clipping)!

Coupon With Me: My Coupon Binder (No Clipping)!

Join me each week as I set out to increase my own stockpile. I’ll be blogging each week and documenting my experience shopping with coupons and learning new methods. If you are new, wanting a coupon buddy, or just looking for a few extra tips – this series is for you! New to the Coupon With Me series? See my first two post HERE.

Well, so far so good. My New Year’s Resolution is moving right along! I got my first set of Sunday coupon inserts today and organized them in my new binder using a new method of NO CLIPPING. Hooray! Clipping each coupon is an awesome way to organize and use coupons, but for me, I’m trying a new method. I created a video (yikes – don’t laugh, I could barely keep a straight face while my husband taped me Coupon With Me: My Coupon Binder (No Clipping)! ) to help explain my new process. Many of you have probably seen a similar method, it’s sort of a compilation of a few different ways I have organized in the past. If you can’t see the video, head over HERE.

Here are the basics:

  • In this new method, I use sheet protectors to hold my inserts and organize by date. Each sheet protector holds one complete insert with each page collated and stapled. On the cover sheet of each insert I write the date the insert arrives and the expiration date of the longest lived coupon. The date helps me to keep each insert organized and the expiration date let’s me know when to throw out the entire insert.
  • I use inexpensive Post-It tab labels the weekly set of each insert within the binder.
  • I also keep a master list of all individual coupons with their insert type and date in which it’s found. This helps me locate specific coupons within the binder. You can find master lists all over the web. Because I’m just starting this method this week I just needed the list of coupons found in the 1/8 inserts. I used Taylor Town Preview for this. PinchingYourPennies and Fabulessly Frugal also have great master list options.
  • I three hole punch entire sheets of internet printables and file them all under a section titled “Internet Printables.”
  • Target Store Printables have their own section and are also three hole punched (no clipping!).
  • A few baseball card holders are kept in the front of the binder to organize random coupons that may have been clipped and not used, blinky coupons, and coupons that I know I want to use in the short term.
  • A binder pencil pouch holds a few useful items: tabs, scissors, preferred cards, calculator, marker or pen.
  • I use paper clips (or bobby pins) to keep inserts from sliding out of the sheet protectors.

Coupon With Me Series: Get Ready to Coupon in 2 Steps

Coupon With Me Series: Get Ready to Coupon in 2 Steps

All right guys! I’m officially starting my New Years Resolution and re-committing myself to my old couponing ways. After slowing down this past year to focus on other aspects of my life (don’t worry – I still was using coupons Coupon With Me Series: Get Ready to Coupon in 2 Steps ), I’m ready to dive back in to couponing with a newspaper subscription and weekly shopping strips. I knew I needed to change my ways when my poor husband actually bought Cinnamon Toast crunch at retail cost last month. Granted, he used a peelie coupon Coupon With Me Series: Get Ready to Coupon in 2 Steps , it was still WAY more than I had sworn to pay for cereal.

If you’re a newbie and trying to get started, feel free to follow me during this adventure. I will be starting from step one and building a stockpile. I’ll try and post my shopping plans once a week to help any of those wanting to join in. We can build a stockpile of foods and non-perishables together!

So here’s the plan for getting ready:

Step 1: Subscribe to a newspaper. Yes, this  is a big deal for me. I’ve been using a coupon clipping service to do one or two big deals a month for about a year. This is a GREAT method and has helped me maintain a modest stockpile of sorts. I recommend this method to anyone that is super busy or just wants to “dabble” in coupon use. Read about it HERE. Having said that, I’m ready to re-build my stockpile and add more diversity, and to do that I want to use a subscription.

I called my local newspaper (The Idaho Statesman) and purchased a 13 week subscription which included 1 daily + 5 Sunday and Holidays papers per week. Mine cost just under $45, which works out to be about $3.40 per week (or less than $.70 per Sunday). Sundays sell for $1.50 – $2 in my area, so this is a decent deal and it’s delivered to my door. You can order more or less, depending on your needs. Be sure to call you local paper and ask for any “coupon” specials. Most larger newspapers offer specials when ordering more than one copy.

Step 2: Get ready to ORGANIZE!  Organizing your coupons is the most crucial aspect of couponing. Without a working organization method you will fail!! You can read about different organization methods in our Couponing 101 e-Book (see right side more for a free copy). I’m officially ditching my clip every coupon and organize in baseball card holders binder ways. I never thought I would abandon this method, but I’ve got 2 boys with growing sports and school schedules and a six week old baby (that want to be held ALL DAY!!!). So… like I always say, I’m trying to make couponing work for my life, instead of being my life.

I’m going to try out a no-clip method. I plan to collate each insert (these are little packets within the newspaper full of coupons), staple each like paper together and file them into sheet protectors based on date and source. I’ll have more on this once my subscription arrives. If you want to follow me these are the things you will need:

  • A large binder – 3″ at least. Some prefer zippered binders and I agree they are great. I use plastic ones, mostly because I’m cheap Coupon With Me Series: Get Ready to Coupon in 2 Steps . I keep my binder in a reusable shopping bag tote, again, mostly because I’m cheap!
  • Sheet protectors, about 30 to start. I bought a bunch for cheap during the back to school sales – because I’m a weirdo and love buying school/office supplies.
  • Extras: A zippered pencil bag. I keep a small pair of scissors and a calculator in this bag. I also tend to keep a few of my preferred store savings cards in here as well – so I don’t have to dig through my wallet or type my number in over and over again during multiple transactions. You may also want a small purse size file holder. I use these for internet printable coupons and for organizing pre-planned shopping trips. You can find these at the dollar store:Coupon With Me Series: Get Ready to Coupon in 2 Steps
