DIY Nail Polish Remover Sponge!

I LOVE nail polish remover sponges. They make it so easy to remove nail polish. All you have to do is dip your finger, give it a twist, and pull out your nice clean nail. However, I’ve had trouble finding them in the stores and when I do, they’re a bit too pricy for me, especially since a full bottle of nail polish remover is half the price of the sponge. So, I decided to try and make my own. I’m very pleased to report, it was a success and it’s totally worth making your own. Here’s how to do it:

Nail Polish Remover

Here’s what you need:

  • Dedicated mason jar (you don’t want to reuse this)
  • Cheap “no name” Sponge (the rough ones)
  • O-Cel-O Sponge
  • Nail Polish Remover
  • Scissors

The first thing you want to do is take one of your “no name” sponges and cut it in half.

Place one half into your mason jar.

Now, take your O-Cel-O sponge and pull the rough “scrubber” side off. You only want to use the soft sides of the sponge.

Roll it and insert it into the mason jar.

Now, take the second half of your “no name” sponge and insert it behind the O-Cell-O sponge so that the center core of the sponges fit snug.

Once the sponges are in place, fill the mason jar with enough polish remover to fully saturate the sponges.

Now, insert your finger into the center sponge.

Let your finger sit for a few seconds. Twist your finger a few times and remove your finger from the jar to reveal your nice clean fingernail.

If you have super tough nail polish on (like mine, with glitter), you can use the rougher sponges as a buffer to remove stubborn flakes.

That’s it! You’ve just made your own Nail Polish Remover Sponge!

When you’re done removing your polish, close your jar and set it aside until the next time you need to use it. Just don’t forget to label it so it isn’t mistaken for anything else and the jar is not used for food.
