My new favorite Green Smoothie Recipe! (Even the kids love it!)

greensmoothie

So I know I’m not one for awesome recipes… We leave that up to fellow Discount Queen Jessica. 🙂

But lately I have been into green smoothies.  Wait, let me rephrase – I’ve been TRYING to get into green smoothies, with the glorious fresh spinach from my garden.  Only when I make a true GREEN smoothie it tastes more like I went outside, grabbed a whole bunch of freshly cut grass clippings and inhaled.  Not a fan.

But finally, FINALLY, I’ve come across a blend that I love!  AND my kids love it.  (Shh.. No one tell them there’s actually spinach and carrots in it!)

First off, if you want to get a really smooth smoothie, a nice blender is key.  Otherwise, it’s grainy and pulpy.  I got a Ninja for Christmas (yes, I really did ask for a blender for Christmas).  The blades are sharp.  So sharp that if you accidentally drop one on your hand you’ll have to go to the ER and get 6 stitches.  Not that I would know…..

Anywho, the recipe: (this makes enough for 2 people)

– About 1 cup orange juice (did I mention I don’t actually measure things out?…)
– Handful of fresh spinach
– 3-4 baby carrots

Blend these ingredients really good FIRST.  Then add:

– About 1 cup strawberries (or berry blend)
– Half a pear (I’ve been using my canned pears from last season 🙂
– 2 chunks pineapple
– splash of lime juice
– 1 full banana

And that’s it!  You can’t tell me that’s not healthy and yet it is super yummy!

I generally use frozen fruit, just because I have it on hand, but feel free to use fresh fruit.  Though if you want it cold, you might want to throw a couple of ice cubes in.

I hope you enjoy!
