i have already tried this, the ones in parkersburg wv will not allow it. even talked to mgr about this. if the coupon makes a item free they will not take the cpn,its there cpn policy.i would ask first

The FD coupon policy doesn’t address this issue specifically, however it does say “Cash Back will not be issued if the value of the coupon is greater than the purchase price of the item.” Now that says to me that they won’t issue overage, but doesn’t say they won’t allow you to get an item that end up being “less than the cpn”. ALSO, they say: “Coupons for free items are only accepted if it requires a purchase to get one free” and then they also say they won’t accept cpns that “Are for “free” items, unless a purchase is required (i.e. Buy one get one free). The way I interpret this is that you can have a coupon that says FREE PKG OF LAYS POTATO CHIPS unless it was a cpn that said you Buy one get one free or if it was one of those where you buy the dip get the free bag of chips type thing. It doesn’t say anything about not being able to use a cpn on an item that will end up being free after the cpn is added. Normally they just adjust the cpn down to the cost of the item. BUT I guess it’s up to the mgr. Here is a copy of the complete FD coupon policy and the link for it is:

Family Dollar Stores, Inc. Coupon Policy

Family Dollar accepts Manufacturer’s and Family Dollar issued coupons
(including internet coupons) that meet these requirements:

 Coupons must be original (no photocopies)
 Coupons must have a scan-able barcode or valid promotion code
 Coupons must have a printed expiration date
 Coupons can be redeemed only for items sold at Family Dollar, and can
be redeemed only for the exact same item (package weight, size, etc.)
 Coupons for free items are only accepted if a purchase is required to get
    one free
 Maximum of two coupons per item. One coupon must be a Manufacturer’s
Coupon and the second coupon must be a Family Dollar Coupon as long
as neither coupon states that it is not valid with other coupons

Family Dollar will NOT accept coupons that:

     Are from other retailers
     Are expired
 Are internet coupons without a scan-able barcode and/or promotion code
 Contain the combination of an invalid barcode that won’t scan and
promotion code that the register will not accept
 Are for “free” items, unless a purchase is required (i.e. Buy one get one
    free is acceptable)
 Do not have a “remit to:” address on the coupon

    In addition:

 “Cash Back” will not be issued if the value of the coupon is greater than
the purchase price of the item.

sorry, I had a typo above! I should have said you CAN’T have a cpn that says ONE FREE BAG OF LAYS POTATO CHIPS unless it was a cpn that also said BUY ONE BAG OF LAYS POTATO CHIPS GET ONE FREE or was a cpn that said buy the dip get the chips free………….SO SORRY!
