Fun Things For Kids to Do #4 : Homemade Puffy Paint

puffypaint

This one was so much fun, and super easy to put together.  Who remembers puffy paint from the early 90’s?  This was pretty cool.  I might even invest in some bottles to keep the “paint” in to use at a later date, and it may be easier for the little ones to control than the baggie.

 MATERIALS NEEDED:

1 cup flour

3 tsp. baking powder

1 tsp. salt

water, enough for making pancake batter consistency

food coloring

zip sandwich baggies

DIRECTIONS:

Mix together flour, baking powder and salt.  Add in water until you get to the right consistency (I added about 1/2 a cup).

Separate into bags (about 1/3 cup in each).  Add a few drops of food coloring.

Zip closed and mix up in bag.

Push all the paint to one corner of the bag and secure with a rubber band.

Snip a small bit off the end, and “paint” on paper (construction paper or card stock would be best, as it is sturdier).  When masterpiece is completed, pop in the microwave for 30-40 seconds.

See how it puffs up!!  Pretty cool!
