Homemade Bisquick Mix – Better than the box!

Someone  recently  told  me  she  paid  close  to  $9  for  a  small  box  of  Bisquick.  I  couldn’t  believe  it!!  It’s  just  a  mix!  After  doing  a  little  research,  I  realized  you  can  make  almost  4  boxes  of  your  own  homemade  Bisquick  (just about 56 oz.)  for  the  same  price  you’d  pay  for  one  box  at  the  store!  This  is  a  BIG  money  saver!!

You  probably  have  most  of  the  ingredients  you  need  on  hand  already:

6  cups  flour

3  tablespoons  baking  powder

2  tablespoons  sugar

1  tablespoon  salt

1  cup  shortening  (make  sure  its  the  kind  you  don’t  need  to  refrigerate!)

I  used  butter  flavored  shortening  because… well,  I  just  think  the  butter  flavor  adds  a  little  YUM!  :)  You  can  use  regular vegetable  shortening  if  you  like.

*You  will  also  need  a  stand  mixer  or  someone  with  strong  arms  to  cut  the  shortening  in.

I  am  adding  all  of  my  ingredients  to  a  glass  bowl  for  illustration  purposes.  You  can  add  your  ingredients  directly  to  your mixing  bowl.

Pour  6  cups  of  flour  into  your  mixing  bowl.

Now,  add  3  tablespoons  baking  powder.

Add  2  tablespoons  sugar  and  1  tablespoon  salt.

Now,  slowly  cut  in  your  cup  of  shortening.

Your  mixture  is  complete  once  it  looks  like  this….

That’s  it!  You’ve  just  made  homemade  Bisquick  mix!  I  promise  you  will  never  go  back  to  the  boxed  stuff  again!  Put  your  mixture  into  an  airtight  container  and  it  will  last  you  6  months  in storage (assuming  you  don’t  use  it  all  before  that)!

If  you  want  to  make  biscuits,  use  2  cups  of  mix  and  a  half  cup  of  milk.  If  you’re  making  pancakes,  use  2  cups  mix,  2  eggs,  and  1  cup  of  milk  (via  Cooks.com).

You  can  use  this  mix  anytime  a  recipe  calls  for  Bisquick!

Thanks  for  reading!  I  hope  this  saves  you some  money!

Remember  to  like,  share,  tweet,  and  pin  this  post!  🙂
