Today is National German Chocolate Cake Day! Germans are famous for their cake recipes. Here are some very good recipes for you. I hope that you enjoy it! 🙂

1. Coconut-Pecan Icing And German Chocolate Cake

Coconut-Pecan Icing And German Chocolate Cake


3/4 cup [1 1/2 sticks] salted butter
1 [12] oz can evaporated milk
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup light brown sugar
2 Tbsp light corn syrup
1/4 tsp salt
4 large egg yolks, beaten
2 tsp pure vanilla extract
1 3/4 cup toasted pecan pieces [see cook’s note]
1 1/2 cup sweetened flaked coconut


2. German Chocolate Cake

For the cake:
3/4 cup butter (1 1/2 sticks)
1 1/4 cups dark cocoa powder
1 cup brewed coffee (Or any liquid. I guess some people are against adding coffee, but it really just brings out the flavor of the chocolate.)
2 cups milk (I used coconut milk)
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1 1/2 cups white sugar
3 eggs, lightly beaten
1 tablespoon vanilla
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (or rice flour for gluten free)
1 teaspoon baking soda
3 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt

For the German chocolate frosting:
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup evaporated milk
3 egg yolks
1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
3 teaspoons vanilla
3 cups Sweetened Flaked Coconut
1 1/2 cups pecans (lightly toasted in the oven or in a pan on the stove)

For the milk chocolate frosting:
2 cups chopped Milk Chocolate or milk chocolate chips
2 sticks butter, softened
5 tablespoons cocoa powder
1 teaspoon vanilla
5 cups powdered sugar
3-6 tablespoons milk





Chocolate Cookie
2 sticks butter, softened
1 cup light brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 large eggs, beaten
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
Pinch salt
German Chocolate Frosting
1 cup evaporated milk
1 cup sugar
3 egg yolks
½ cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/3 cup sweetened shredded coconut
1 cup chopped pecans
Optional: ¼ cup chocolate candy coating, melted for drizzle


4. Turtle Cake

1 German Chocolate cake mix
3 eggs
1 cup water
⅓ cup canola oil
1 stick unsalted butter
11-oz. bag Kraft caramels, unwrapped (40 per bag)
14-oz. can condensed milk
6-oz. (1 cup) chocolate chips
1 cup pecan pieces





Crust Ingredients:
1 package (about 38) chocolate sandwich cookies, finely processed into crumbs (cream and all – it’ll disappear when you crush them up!)
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled
Small pinch of salt

Ganache Ingredients:
3/8 cups heavy cream (6 tablespoons)
5 ounces bittersweet or semisweet chocolate, finely chopped (I used half semisweet and half Ghirardelli 60% Cacao chocolate chips)

Cheesecake Ingredients:
3 packages (8 ounces each) of cream cheese, room temperature
3/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract
3/4 cup sugar
3 eggs, room temperature
3 ounces or about 6 tablespoons chocolate chips, melted and cooled (I used half semisweet and half Ghirardelli 60% Cacao)

Cake Ingredients:
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/8 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
3/8 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 large egg
3/8 cup low-fat buttermilk
1/8 cup plus 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil
3/8 cups warm water
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Filling Ingredients:
2/3 cup heavy cream
2/3 cup sugar
2 large egg yolks
2 ounces butter, cut into small pieces
1/3 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup pecans, toasted and finely chopped
1 cup unsweetened coconut, toasted
