Here is a great idea that I use for gifts. I know I use dishcloths as much as I use utensils in my kitchen, but can never seem to find colors to match my décor. So with this in mind I chose to knit my very own dishcloths. As you can see from the pictures my colors are very bright and vibrant in my kitchen. These also make great house warming gifts or even a simple wedding gift that is homemade with love. If you don’t know how to knit I have included instructions to crochet a similar dishcloth.
These dishcloths can be made in any color of your choice. I have even gone as far as dying my yarn at times when I am unable to
find a color that works. If you choose to dye your yarn, a quick tip is to soak your finished product in a gallon of water with a cup of vinegar to seal the dye from getting on other items in your laundry when washing. I spent an average of $1.15 for each yarn ball. Most craft stores sell the small balls of Sugar ‘n Cream for $1.89 and the Wal-Mart near me sell them for $1.77 each. Prices may vary by state and location. Of course I used coupons at my local Michaels Crafts, and A.C. More (40% off) to save money. If you watch your newspapers, these stores come out with coupons for 40% off a single item, which is the best time to buy.
I had a great time teaching my daughter to knit and crochet these dishcloths. Now she has decided to make sets for all her friends for graduation next year. The thought of a handmade gift will brighten anyone’s day. These dishcloths will be unique to everyone and that is the key. Please do not get discourage if your sizing is off, this may occur depending on how tight or relaxed your grip is.
Also if this is your first time knitting or crocheting I recommend you Google search videos to help you understand the basic concepts. There are so many videos to help that anyone can do this craft. Good luck and as always Happy Crafting!
