Uncle Sam’s Red, White, & Blue Layered Cupcakes!

Independence Day is only a few days away!! I LOVE this holiday and everything it encompasses. So, naturally, I want everything covered in red, white, and blue…including my cupcakes!

If you’re looking for something to jazz up your 4th of July party, you’re going to love these “Uncle Sam” cupcakes! You won’t waste any extra time in the kitchen with these!  These are SO easy to make and they’re sure to be enjoyed by all.

Uncle Sam's cupcakes

Here’s what you need:

  • Any Boxed White Cake (plus any ingredients it calls for)
  • Red and Blue Food Coloring
  • 3 Bowls (1 for mixing, two for divided batter)
  • Spoons
  • Cupcake Liners
  • Cupcake Tin

The first thing you want to do is make the batter according to the box directions. Once your batter is mixed, divide it evenly between the three bowls.

IMG_8863Add a few drops of red food coloring to one bowl (I used icing coloring so I had a “dollop”).

IMG_8864Now, add a drop or a dollop of blue coloring to the second bowl.

Mix color into the batter thoroughly. Add more food coloring if the color is not dark enough.

IMG_8865Set aside.

Grab your red batter and add a spoonful to the bottom of a lined cupcake tin. Repeat until all liners have a layer of red batter at the bottom. Use a spoon to level the batter in each liner.

*Be careful not to add too much batter. There needs to be enough room for each color.

IMG_8867Now, add a spoonful of white batter on top of each red layer.

Use the back of a spoon to lightly even the white layer.

Repeat the process with the blue batter.

IMG_8879Bake according to box directions.

Once the cupcakes have been baked and cooled, ice them as usual (I used a white icing and sprinkled star shaped sprinkles on top for added “spirit”).

All that’s left to do is enjoy the faces people make as they discover Uncle Sam’s Red, White, & Blue colors!
